Roehrig Named Region Field Athlete of the Year

Golden Gopher senior Liz Roehrig was honored as the NCAA Midwest Region Field Event Athlete of the Year as the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its regional award recipients. Roehrig also earned the award in 2008.
Roehrig will compete this week in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the heptathlon. She enters the competition ranked second in the nation with a score of 5,871 points, her school-record tally which won the Big Ten title. Roehrig, a four-time All-American, placed second at the NCAA Championships a year ago. Roehrig’s seven individual event Big Ten titles, three in the heptathlon, is the most in Golden Gopher women’s track history.
