It's Camp Time!
6/9/2009 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
It’s June and school is out for summer. It’s camp time!
Pam Borton’s Minnesota Girls Summer Camp once again offers young girls from around Minnesota and the Midwest the chance to improve their basketball skills in a fun-filled atmosphere where they also have the opportunity to interact with Golden Gopher coaches and players.
The 2009 camps are a little different than in past years since a new basketball floor is being installed in Williams Arena. Campers will still get the chance to see the basketball facilities in “The Barn” but will have to return next summer to play on a new raised court. The Borton Camp uses ample court space in the Sports Pavilion and the nearby U of M Recreation Center to give the campers a great basketball experience at camp.
From early June to late July, girls have a number of camp opportunities, ranging from Day Camp for the youngest girls starting in grade three, to an Elite Camp, to the culmination of the Gopher camp season with the highly competitive Team Camp (July 24-26).
“We strive for each camper to enjoy a quality camp experience, maybe learn a thing or two, but most of all to get to be a kid getting to play the game they love,” said Borton, who has coached the Gophers to postseason tournament appearances in each of her seven seasons at Minnesota. “We have so many of our campers come back summer after summer and we also see them often in the stands cheering on the Gophers during the season. I think the coaches and our Gopher players at the camps get as much out of the summer experiences working with our young basketball campers as our campers do themselves.”
