Gopher Profile: Incoming Freshman Paige Bradley

Periodically throughout the summer, gophersports.com will feature incoming freshmen as they are getting ready to join the University of Minnesota women’s swimming and diving team. The second Gopher student-athlete to be featured is breaststroker Paige Bradley. A native of Danville, Calif., Johnson committed to Minnesota during the early signing period last November. Listed below is her high school/club bio and a short question and answer session with the incoming freshman.
High School: A 2009 graduate of Monte Vista High School • ranked the 23rd best national recruit • swam at Montevista High School with head coach Dow Stewart and Crow Canyon Swim Club under coaches Dan Cottam and Ethan Hall • a 16-time All-American • 2008 U.S. Olympic Trial qualifier in the 100 and 200 breaststroke • U.S. national qualifier in the 100 fly, the 200 fly and the 200 individual medley • 2008 Speedo Sectional Champion in the 100 breaststroke • four-year letterwinner and three-time all-conference selection •Academic All-American in 2008 and 2009 • 2009 team captain of Monte Vista team • named the team's most valuable for three straight years in 2007, 2008 and 2009 • named rookie of the year in 2006 • enters her college career with a time of 1:00.56 in the 100 breast, 4:18.55 in the 400 IM, 2:00.40 in the 200 IM, in the 100 fly and 1:59.12 in the 200 fly.
Personal: Born May 29, 1991 to Tom and Susan Bradley • has two brothers, Matt and Kevin • aunt Pat Bradley was a professional golfer and inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame • plans to major in liberal arts and eventually go to law school.
Gophersports.com: What impressed you the most about the University of Minnesota?
Paige Bradley: What impressed me most about the U of M were the close teammates and the devoted coaches.
GS: Since you’ve committed to Minnesota, what have you been up to and what have you been doing this summer?
PB: My favorite memories from high school are all the team trips i got to take with my high school and club teammates.
GS: Since you’ve committed to Minnesota, what have you been up to and what have you been doing this summer?
PB: Since committing to Minnesota, I have been in the pool training so I can be in good shape when I arrive on campus next fall.
GS: Do you have any individual or long-term goals at Minnesota?
PB: Some goals of mine are to win Big Tens as a team, place top ten at NCAAs as a team, individually I would like to place top eight in all my events at Big Tens, and score for the team at NCAAs. I would also like to contribute in relays. My biggest dream is to make an International team and represent the USA.
GS: What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t in the pool?
PB: Outside the pool i like to hang out with friends, listen to music, and read. I love the Twilight series, Harry Potter and Tuesdays with Morrie.
GS: What are you the most excited for after stepping foot on campus?
PB: When stepping on campus, i am most excited about the freedom of being on my own and becoming close friends with my teammates.
