Golden Gopher women’s basketball players and St. Paul natives Ashley Ellis-Milan and Kiara Buford took part in the 2009 Rondo Days Festival in St. Paul, on Saturday, July 18. The Rondo Days Festival is an annual celebration to remember the African-American neighborhood of Rondo which was split by the construction of Interstate 94 in the mid 1960s.
Ellis-Milan and Buford were joined by former Golden Gopher standout Linda Roberts, who also hails from St. Paul. The trio all graduated from St. Paul Central High School.
The Gopher contingent enjoyed the Rondo Days parade, riding in a custom Zamboni or greeting fans along the parade route. Following the parade, the Gophers appeared at the Fast Break Club booth at the Martin Luther King Center.
