Peterzen Qualifies for 109th United States Amateur

University of Minnesota redshirt freshman Tim Peterzen carded a 36-hole total of 2-over par 146 to finish in a tie for third place at the US Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Edina Country Club. By finishing in the top five, Peterzen earned a spot in the 109th United States Amateur, which will be played Aug. 24-30 at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Okla.

Peterzen, a native of Elk River, Minn., was a four-year letterwinner as a member of the Elks’ golf team. He led Elk River to three consecutive Northwest Suburban Conference titles and was named to the All-Northwest Suburban First Team in three of his four years on varsity. A member of the 2008 All-State team, Peterzen finished his senior campaign with a 72.6 stroke average
 
The Gophers will open the 2009-10 season by hosting the fifth annual Gopher Invitational Sept. 13-14 at Spring Hill Golf Course in Wayzata, Minn. The event is free and open to the public.
