The Minnesota men's swimming and diving program announced its 2009-10 schedule today. The slate includes six dual meets and three major invitationals before the Big Ten and NCAA Championships to end the season.
The Gophers will open the regular season on October 30 when they head to Madison, Wis. for a Big Ten dual with the Badgers. The following weekend, Minnesota will head south to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes in a dual on November 6. The Gophers will host the annual Minnesota Grand Prix, November 13-15 at University Aquatic Center which usually draws much of the region's top swimming talent. Prior to winter break, Minnesota will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the first of three trips during the year for the Ohio State Invitational, December 4-6.
The Gophers will spend two weeks in Hawaii for the annual winter training trip and will face Hawaii in Honolulu on January 10 in a dual meet. On the return trip from Hawaii, the Gophers will stop in Columbia, Mo. to face Big 12 opponent Missouri on January 16. Two weeks later, Minnesota will face Wisconsin and Purdue in Big Ten Triple Duals action in Madison. As a final tuneup for the postseason meets, Minnesota will host the annual Minnesota Challenge at University Aquatic Center on February 5 and 6.
The Gophers will spend the rest of the competitive season in Columbus as the Buckyes are the host institution for the Big Ten Championships (February 25-27) and the NCAA Championships (March 25-27). The NCAA Zone Qualifying Championships will be held March 12-14 at a location to be determined.
Minnesota finished third at the Big Ten Championships and 10th at the NCAA meet last season.
