Nine Gophers Earn CSCAA Academic Honors

Nine members of the Minnesota men's swimming and diving team were named College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Americans and the team was honored with Scholar All-America distinction for posting a team GPA greater than 3.0.

Seniors Colin Lee-To, Anthony Portela and Mike Holmes were named First Team All-America Scholars for owning a GPA of 3.5 or greater while qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

Lee-To, an eight-time All-American, ended his career on a high note, winning the 2009 Big Ten title in the 100 breaststroke and contributed to the 200 medley relay Big Ten title. He earned four All-America awards as a senior, including a 16th place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Portela was a three-time All-American during his career. He contributed to Minnesota's Big Ten record-breaking 200 medley relay at the Big Ten Championships and earned All-America honors on the 200 and 400 medley relays at the NCAA Championships. Holmes, a two-time All-American, qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third time as a senior in the 1650 and 500 freestyles.

Minnesota was one of six Big Ten teams to earn CSCAA Scholar All-America status. The Gophers posted a team GPA of 3.09.

Seniors Cole Young, Adam Weis and Josh Griffey, junior Michael Daup and sophomores Ivan Gutesa and Rob Schnitzler earned Honorable Mention All-America Scholar distinction for owning a GPA of 3.5 or higher and gaining NCAA consideration times.
