Wednesday's first night of competition had mixed results for the Gophers at the 2009 VISA Championships.
Kit Beikmann did a great routine on pommel horse and scored a career high of 15.45. He was up in the first of six rotations and his score held up extremely well throughout the entire meet. NCAA champ Daniel Ribeiro of Illinois was the only competitor in the entire meet to score higher than Kit with a score of 15.90. At this point, Kit is sitting in second place in the event and ready to compete again Friday night.
Guillermo Alvarez had an uncharacteristically rough meet and finished in 22nd place in the all-around with a score of 83.25. His best finish on any event was a 9th-place mark on the pommel horse with a score of 14.50.
We just finished our morning training at the Dallas Convention Center and both guys addressed the issues they needed to, so we will rest today and get mentally ready for another day of competition.
