The Golden Gopher men’s cross country team reported to campus to begin its training for the 2009 season. Minnesota finished 15th in the NCAA Championships a year ago and will headlined this fall by defending Big Ten individual champion Hassan Mead.

The Gophers spent the first day of training camp in meetings and getting photos taken, including a team photo, before taking to the Lake of the Isles for a run. The team will depart campus on Saturday for a week of training in Nevis, Minn., at the Belle Shore Resort.

Minnesota’s first competition is Sept. 5, at the St. Olaf Opener.
