Former Gopher women's golfer Sarah Butler qualified for her first LPGA event on Monday, reaching the field for the CN Canadian Women's Open in Calgary, Alberta. Butler becomes the fifth Gopher to ever compete in an LPGA event. The Canadian Open will be held September 3-6 at the 6,427-yard Priddis Greens & Country Club.
Butler fired a 1-under par 71 at the Calgary Elks Lodge and Golf Club on Monday to earn one of four qualifying spots for the LPGA event. She finished second overall in the field of 51 golfers.
Butler, who lettered for Minnesota from 2003-06, ranks 11th all-time at Minnesota in career scoring average. The Roseau, Minn. native won the Minnesota Invitational in 2005.
Butler joins Karen Weiss, Patty Berg, Kathy Williams and Katie Bakken as Gopher graduates to compete in LPGA events.
