9/12/2009 12:00:00 AM | Men's Cross Country
The Minnesota men’s cross country team tallied seven of the top 15 finishes and scored 22 points to win the team title of the Oz Memorial Run at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn., on Friday. Redshirt freshman Pieter Gagnon was the top collegiate finisher crossing the finish line of the 6-kilometer course in a time of 19 minutes, 4.58 seconds. Former Gopher All-American Chris Rombough, competing unattached, won the race in 18:54.68.
“It was a good chance for us to run our young guys and get their feet wet so to speak,” said Golden Gopher head coach Steve Plasencia. “Pieter ran a nice race. I think it helped him relax a bit to have Chris out there with him.”
Sophomore Paul Hilsen finished third overall in a time of 19:18.37. Travis Burkstand in seventh (19:31.64) and Matt Volz in 11th (19:37.72) completed the scoring for the Gophers. Along in the top 15 were Andy Richardson in 12th (19:42.79) and Joe McFarland in 15th (19:48.49).
Minnesota continues its 2009 campaign by playing host to the Roy Griak Invitational in two weeks (Sept. 26).
