Gophers Head Into Final Round Tied for 2nd

Minnesota only seemed to improve throughout the day as the Gophers climbed their way up the leader board to finish the first round in third place with a +4 (292) score Sunday morning at Spring Hill golf club in Wayzata. Southern Methodist University (SMU) led all teams with a score of -3 (285) with UNC-Wilmington two shots behind in second.
Topping the leaderboard for the round and pacing all Gophers, senior Ben Pisani had an extraordinary first round score of -7 (65), setting the Spring Hill golf club single round record. Pisani also led all golfers with an impressive 9 birdies in the first round.
Playing unattached, Gopher redshirt freshman Tim Peterzen joined Pisani in the top 10 individuals by carding an even par and tying for eighth through the first round.
Behind Pisani, SMU's Kelly Kraft ended his round at -5 to finish in second while Austin Cook of Arkansas and Matt Schovee of SMU finished in a tie for third.

Round 2
The Gophers finished out the second round of the 5th annual Gopher Invitation in second place with a score of -3 (285) Sunday afternoon at Spring Hill golf club in Wayzata. Overall Minnesota sits at +1, tied with Arkansas for second. SMU leads the field at -1 through two rounds.
Ben Pisani built off his course-record score of 65 in the first round to card a 71 in the second round and bringing his tournament score down to -8. Pisani leads all golfers while Kelly Kraft of SMU trails by one stroke. Jordan Elsen of Wisconsin currently sits in third place at -2.
Redshirt freshman Robert Bell led a second round Gopher charge, posting a 70 which led the team. Bell is currently at +1 sitting in a tie for 12th place overall along with unattached redshirt freshman David Haley, among others. Cameron White (R-Jr.) and Derek Chang (So.) each put up par for the round.
The second round saw consistent performances all around from Minnesota with four of the five attached golfers posting scores of par or better.
The Gopher Invitational will conclude with the third round tomorrow morning.
