Megan Duwell Wins Intrasquad Title

Senior All-American Megan Duwell captured medalist honors at the Minnesota Intrasquad Meet on Saturday, covering the 5-kilometer Les Bolstad course in a time of 17 minutes, 41.63 seconds. The Minnesota Maroon won the team title with 34 points.
Duwell, running for the second-place Minnesota Gold team, broke away from the pack midway through the race and went on to win by an impressive 52 second margin. Jamie Cheever placed second in a time of 18:33.22.
Heather Dorniden (18:41.35), Amy Laskowske (18:42.91) and Stephanie Price (18:46.66) posted third, fourth and fifth-place finishes to pace the Minnesota Maroon team to the title. After Duwell and Cheever, the Gophers third through ninth finishers were packed within a 13–second margin. Among that pack was the top true Gopher freshman, Kayla Wagner, who finished ninth overall in a time of 18:54.37.
“I’m excited about the upcoming season,” said veteran Golden Gopher mentor Gary Wilson, who enters his 25th season at the helm of the Minnesota program. “This is only an intrasquad meet, but the times reflected the hard work and training this team put in over the summer. I’m proud of them.”
Minnesota opens its regular season on Friday, Sept. 11, when the Gophers play host to the Oz Memorial Run.
