The University of Minnesota Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has organized the third annual Breathe Easy Cystic Fibrosis 5K fundraiser, which will take place on October 17. The race begins at 1 p.m. in front of Coffman Union on the University of Minnesota campus and the track loops through both the East Bank and West Bank campuses.
The registration fee for the race is $18, and the proceeds from the event will go to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The University of Minnesota and Golden Gopher Athletics are doing their part to contribute to the eradication of cystic fibrosis and to help those who have it live hearty lives. The Breathe Easy Cystic Fibrosis 5K fundraising run is organized by students and staff at the University of Minnesota. Gopher student-athletes from several athletic teams will be volunteering at and participating in the event.
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited illness that affects the lungs and digestive system and could lead to potentially fatal health complications. Years ago, people with cystic fibrosis were not predicted to lead long lives and many died before finishing elementary school. However, with recent advancements in the medical field, people with cystic fibrosis can now expect longer and healthier lives.
Life-changing treatments and steps towards a cure have been developed thanks to intense ongoing research that is funded by people all over the nation that strive to raise money and awareness to combat the disease. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's mission is to elicit support in order to develop and find cures and improve life for the disease that affects more than 30,000 children and adults in the United States.
