Gophers Finish Eighth at Lady Northern

Beginning the weekend ranked 39th in the country by Golfweek, the Gophers recorded an eighth place finish at the Lady Northern in Glencoe, Ill on Tuesday. Playing in their third event of the season, Minnesota recorded rounds of 303, 298, and 305 to finish with a 54-hole score of 906.  

Senior Teresa Puga, who entered the final round in a tie for fifth, finished tied for 11th after a final round 76. Puga carded rounds of 72 and 71 in the first and second rounds respectively for a 219 (+3) total. Fellow senior Samantha Sommers earned a tie for 22nd following consecutive 74's in the first two rounds and concluded with a three over-par 75. The 54-hole total of 223 is the lowest of her season thus far.

Mary Narzisi, also a senior, finished in a tied for 30th place. Sophomore Jackie Shepherd ended in a tie for 48th, while senior Michele Edlin and freshman Banchalee Theinthong , playing in her first career event, tied for 52nd.

Lauren Weaver of host Northwestern completed a wire to wire victory to earn medalist honors with an eight under-par 208. Laura Gonzalez of Purdue finished runner up at four under (212) and Laura Gahm of Indiana took third place with a 213 (-3).

Fresh of their victory at the Windy City Challenge last week, Purdue took home the tournament championship Tuesday with a six under-par, 858.  Northwestern earned runner up with an 875, while Ohio State claimed third with 883. Iowa State finished fourth at 887 and Texas Tech fifth at 891.

Minnesota will next travel to Nevada to participate in their last event of the fall season at the Las Vegas Invitational on Oct.  25th.
