The Minnesota women’s swimming & diving team plays host to Iowa State on Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Golden Gophers first home meet of the season. Events get underway at 1 p.m. at the University Aquatic Center’s Dorothy Sheppard Pool. In addition to the women’s dual meet, the Gopher men will be holding their annual intrasquad meet.

Minnesota is 2-0 in dual meets in 2010-11 after sweeping Michigan and Michigan State last weekend. A number of Gophers enjoyed season-opening success. Senior Jillian Tyler won three individual events versus Michigan and was part of winning relays in both meets to capture Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors.

Gophers who won the same events in both meets last weekend were junior Hannah Whitehead in the 200-yard freestyle and freshman Margaret Keefer in the 1-meter diving.

Iowa State is the closest NCAA Division I school in proximity to Minnesota, just about a 3 1/2-hour drive down I-35.The Gophers and Cyclones have squared off 23 times since the first battle in 1976. Minnesota holds a 22-1 advantage in the series. The last time the teams faced off in a dual meet was in 2004.
