Gophers Defeat Iowa State, 3-0 in Dual Meets

Eleven different Golden Gophers won individual events as the Minnesota women’s swimming & diving team captured a dual-meet victory over Iowa State by a score of 157-129. Co-head coaches Terry Nieszner and Kelly Kremer used a youthful lineup, resting several of Minnesota’s top swimmers. Minnesota improved to 3-0 in dual meets this season.

The Gophers started the meet with victories in nine straight events. The 200-yard medley relay of Melissa Nelson, Lauren Greenberg, Kaylee Jamison and Abby Staats started things off by winning the title in 1 minute, 45.87 seconds. Nelson, Greenberg and Jamison also won individual events.

Nelson won the 100 back with her season-best time of 58.52 seconds. Greenberg grabbed a first-place finish in the 100 breast in 1:05.90, while Jamison won the 200 fly in 2:05.72.

Freshman diver Margaret Keefer has opened her Gopher career with three straight dual-meet victories in 1-meter diving. Keefer won with a point total of 283.80.

Megan Braun added her season-best performance in the 100 fly winning in a time of 56.82 seconds.

Other Gophers winning events were Hailey Szews in the 1,000 free (10:19.68), Meagan Radecke in the 200 free (1:53.59), Erin Caflisch in the 50 free (24.37), Tess Behrens in the 100 free (53.24), Katie Johnson in the 200 breast (2:24.12) and Courtney Veerman in the 500 free (5:10.36).
