Maroon Team Wins Steak N' Bean Series

The Maroon team rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the final two innings to claim the 2010 Steak N' Bean Series with a 9-5 victory in the seventh and deciding game of the series on Saturday, Oct. 16.
Entering the top of the eighth, the Gold Team led 5-4. However, the Maroon team came up with two runs to take a 6-5 lead in the eight and pushed it to a 9-5 lead with three run in the top of the ninth.
The Maroon team was led by Trip Schultz (Forest Lake, Minn.) who was 3-for-5 with three runs, a triple and two RBI. Matt Halloran (Eden Prairie, Minn.) also went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Ethan Liederman (New York, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Andy Henkemeyer (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) was also 2-for-3 with a run. Billy Soule (Hamel, Minn.) also knocked in a run, while Troy Larson (Maplewood, Minn.), Nick O'Shea (Blaine, Minn.) and David Bettenburg (St. Paul, Minn.) also scored runs.
Soule picked up the win in relief, as he tossed two shutout innings, gave up one hit, two walks and collected a strikeout. DJ Snelten (Ingelside, Ill.) also had 2.1 shutout innings, gave up one hit and struck out a batter. Kyle O'Shea (Blaine, Minn.) started and gave up two hits, two unearned runs, a walk and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
The Gold team was led by Sam Ryan (Oakdale, Minn.) who was 1-for-3 with a run, a stolen base and an RBI. Bobby Juan (LaCrosse, Wis.) and Kyle Geason (Eden Prairie, Minn.) also knocked in runs for the Gold squad. Geason, Justin Gominsky (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Drew Hanish (McKinney, Texas) also scored runs in the game. The Maroon team limited the Gold squad to four hits in the game.
Scott Fern (Eau Claire, Wis.) started for the Gold Team and pitched two shutout innings, gave up only a walk and struck out a pair of batters. Juan also pitched 1.1 shutout innings. Dustin Klabunde (Brownton, Minn.) took the loss, as he gave up six hits, four earned runs and collected two strikeouts in two innings of work.
