Blog: Weber Approaching Huge Milestone

For University of Minnesota senior quarterback Adam Weber, the opportunity to reach the 10,000-yard passing mark will be well within his sights when the Gophers host Penn State on Saturday at 11 a.m. at TCF Bank Stadium.

With 9,900 yards already under his belt, Weber would need only 100 yards passing against the Nittany Lions to become just the fifth quarterback in Big Ten history to reach the milestone. For his career, Weber has thrown for 100 yards or more in 42 of his 45 career starts.

Weber would be joining Purdue's Drew Brees (11,792) and Curtis Painter (11,163), Northwestern's Brett Basanez (10,580) and Iowa's Chuck Long (10,461).

"Being one of the top five quarterbacks in Big Ten history would be a big deal," Weber said. "There have been many great quarterbacks that have played in this league."

However, Weber also took the time to note that while achieving a personal goal is a point of pride to him, he puts a much larger emphasis on the team aspect of football. For Weber, sharing a victory with his team this week is a much bigger deal to him than passing a milestone or setting a record.

Weber, who is currently No. 3 in the Big Ten, and No. 24 in the county with 1,662 passing yards, will be facing a Penn State defense that gives up an average of 169.3 yards per game through the air this season.

With a home game each of the next two weeks, Weber is hoping to be able to break the 10,000-yard mark in front of his home crowd.

"It's a big deal to me, and I'm excited that I have the possibility of doing it at home," Weber said.
