On Sunday, October 17th, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the 3rd Annual Breathe Easy Cystic Fibrosis 5K run fundraiser. The proceeds from this event will go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, an organization focused on the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and improve the quality of life for those with the disease.
The 3rd Annual Breathe Easy Cystic Fibrosis 5K was a huge success once again! The weather was great, the turnout was excellent, and it was a fun time had by all!
Corey Wohlers, 20, of Minneapolis, MN crossed the line in first place overall. He ran a 5K time of 17:30. Kate Tavakley, 36, of Burnsville, MN was first place for the women in a time of 21:49. Among the nearly 75 participants in the CF5K, the entire University of Minnesota men's wrestling team out to compete and show their support of cystic fibrosis. Additionally, representatives from the swimming & diving and track & cross country teams took part on the 5K run.
Nearly $1,100 was raised to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation! This is more than double the amount raised two years ago at the inaugural Breathe Easy Cystic Fibrosis 5K!
Even though race day has passed, you can still help and show your support by purchasing a 2010 Breathe Easy Cystic Fibrosis 5K t-shirt in the Bierman Building Lobby in the next several weeks. Stay tuned for details. Additionally, donations are still be accepted. Please contact Anissa Lightner (meyer174@umn.edu) or Ben Kampf (Kampf0102@hotmail.com) to find out how you can help!
