Gophers Move Up to Fifth at Collegiate Showdown

Minnesota recorded a seven under par 281 during Tuesday's second round at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and jumped from 10th place to fifth going into Wednesday's final round. The Gophers beat their first round total by 19 strokes on day two and trail second place Arizona by 10 with 18 holes remaining.  

Senior Michelle Edlin led the Gophers with a career low four under par 68 on Tuesday, marking an eight stroke turnaround from Monday. Edlin is tied for 17th at 144. After a 69 in her second 18 holes, Teresa Puga is tied with Edlin in 17th.

Freshman Banchalee Theinthong carded another solid round of 73 and sits in a tie for 24th place.

With a two under par 71, senior Samantha Sommers is tied for 32nd, and fellow senior Mary Narzisi is tied for 51st after a two stroke improvement and a 74.

Arkansas built on its first place margin Tuesday, increasing their lead to 18 shots over second place Arizona with a 23 under par 553.  Kent State is third at 573, Louisville sits in fourth at 574, and the Gophers are in fifth at 581 with one round to play.
