Gophers Card Program-Best 877 at Las Vegas

Minnesota finished their fall season on Oct. 27 with a sixth place finish in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder, Nev. More importantly, the Gophers combined to card rounds of 300, 281, and 296 for a 54-hole total of 877, the lowest such total in the history of women's golf at the University of Minnesota. The team has now finished in the top-10 at each of their four events this season.

Teresa Puga and Michele Edlin, a pair of seniors, led the Gophers with ties for 14th in the standings.  After recording scores of 69 and 68 respectively on Tuesday, both Puga and Edlin posted 74's in the final round.

Playing in only her second ever collegiate tournament, freshman Banchalee Theinthong finished in a tie for 20th place. The Thailand native recorded rounds of 73, 73, and 74 for a career-best total of 220.

Senior Samantha Sommers finished one stroke behind Theinthong in a tie for 23rd place, while fellow senior Mary Narzisi ended up tying for 71st place.

Emily Tubert of champion Arkansas completed a wire to wire victory by five strokes over Kent State's Martina Gaiver and Razorback teammates Corina Rees and Keli Shean.

Arkansas was the leader in all three rounds, earning an impressive 23 stroke victory over second place Kent State with an 846, good for 18 under. Arizona finished third with 872, with Louisville and Washington tying for fourth at 876.

The fall season featured two other milestones, as the Gophers also posted the third and ninth lowest scores in program history at the Cougar Classic and Golfweek Challenge with scores of 892 and 900, respectively.

With the fall season now concluded, the Gophers next event will be on Feb. 6 at the Alumni Challenge in Phoenix, Ariz.
