Gopher athletes visited Meadow View Elementary School on Friday morning to educate students on the importance of eating smart and living a healthy lifestyle, as part of the Century Club program. The athletes boarded the MAGIC bus at the University of Minnesota at 8:30, and returned to the campus shortly before 11 a.m. At the elementary school, they spent an hour interacting with the students, discussing how physical activity outside the classroom prepares students to perform better inside the classroom.
Century Club is a program designed for fifth grade students and their families to be physically active outside the school day. Every Monday, students turn in a Century Club mileage form signed by their parents stating how many points they have. One point is earned for 15 or more minutes of moderate intensity, and two points are earned for 15 minutes of high intensity. The program runs from Nov. 1 to Mar. 31. Students work toward the goal of accumulating 100 points or more, while logging 100 miles of physical activity.
