Minnesota Defeats Indiana in Three Sets

The 17th-ranked Minnesota volleyball team (13-3, 3-1) defeated Indiana (12-4, 0-4) in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.
Minnesota was led by Tabi Love (Dauphin, Manitoba) who hit .464 (16-3-28) with 16 kills and two blocks, while freshman Ashley Wittman (Shakopee, Minn.) hit .381 (10-2-21) with 10 kills, eight digs and six blocks. Junior Ariana Filho (Monument, Colo.) tallied a career-high eight blocks, while freshman Tori Dixon (Burnsville, Minn.) hit .533 (9-1-15) with nine kills.
Sophomore outside hitter Katherine Harms (Albertville, Minn.) had eight kills, eight digs, two service aces and three blocks, while junior Jessica Granquist (Blaine, Minn.) had 12 digs on the match. Sophomore setter Mia Tabberson (Muncie, Ind.) had 26 assists in the first two sets, and junior Stephanie Nucci (Gilbert, Ariz.) came in and had 13 assists in the final set.
Minnesota overwhelmed the Hoosiers in the first set as it outhit Indiana .423 (14-3-26) to .207 (13-7-29), and had four blocks to none. The Gophers limited the Hoosiers to a .114 (11-7-35) hitting percentage in the second set, and hit .294 (16-6-34). Minnesota also outblocked Indiana 4.0-to-1.0 in the set, and got five kills from both Love and Wittman.
The Gophers hit .414 (15-3-29) in the final set to .258 (13-5-31), and were led by Love's seven kills.
Overall, Minnesota outhit Indiana .371 (45-12-89) to .189 (37-19-95) for the match. The Gophers also bad 12 blocks to two for the Hoosiers, and outdug Indiana 35 to 27.
Indiana was led by Jordan Haverly who had 12 kills and five digs, while Kelci Marshall had 10 kills and three digs. Caitlin Cox also finished with 10 digs on the match. The Hoosiers were without Ashley Benson who was held out on a precautionary basis due to concussion-like symptoms.
Minnesota will be back in action when it travels to Iowa City to face Iowa on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. That match can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
