MINNESOTA POSTGAME NOTES - Oct. 8 at Wisconsin Wisconsin 41, Minnesota 23
SERIES NOTES • Today’s game marked the 120th meeting between Minnesota and Wisconsin. It is the most-played series in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) history. • Minnesota leads the all-time series 59-53-8, but has now lost seven in a row and 14 of 16 vs. Wisconsin. • The Gophers’ last win over Wisconsin was a 37-34 victory at the Metrodome on Nov. 8, 2003.
TEAM NOTES • Wisconsin was the fifth 2009 bowl team the Gophers have faced in their six games this season. • Minnesota fell to 1-3 in Big Ten road openers under Brewster. • The Gophers are now 3-10 Big Ten road games under coach Tim Brewster and 6-20 overall in league matchups. • After a win in its season opener at Middle Tennessee, Minnesota slipped 1-1 in road games this season. • The Gophers are now 0-10 against ranked opponents under Brewster. • Minnesota lost its 16th consecutive matchup with a ranked opponent and its second of the season. The Gophers dropped a 32-21 decision to then-No. 18 USC at home earlier this year. • The Gophers had no turnovers in a game for the first time since the season opener against Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 2. • Minnesota wore white helmets for the first time since hosting North Dakota State in 2006.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES • With his third completion of today’s game, Adam Weber took sole possession of the No. 5 spot in the Big Ten for career completions with 798. The pass play occurred during the second quarter and went for 13 yards to Eric Lair at the 9:29 mark of the second quarter. • Weber reached the 800-career completions mark with just under two minutes to play in the second quarter, connecting with Marquis Gray on a 4-yard pass on fourth and 4 at the Wisconsin 30. With 11 completions today, he now has 806 for his career. • Weber hooked up with Gray for the Gophers’ first TD of the day 26 seconds before halftime to cut the Badgers’ lead to 14-9. The TD pass was Weber’s 10th of the season and the 62nd of his career. Gray’s reception was his fourth of the season and the fifth of his career. • Weber hit Da’Jon McKnight twice in the fourth quarter for touchdowns and now has 64 career TD tosses. McKnight has five TD grabs for the season and six in his career. • With 64 career TD passes, Weber now stands alone in 10th place on the Big Ten’s career TD passing chart, moving past Michigan State’s Jeff Smoker (2000-03) and Iowa's Drew Tate (2003-06). • Weber threw for 249 yards, giving him 9,686 for his career. He entered play Saturday with the seventh-most passing yards all-time among Big Ten QBs. • Bryant Allen’s 60-yard reception during the fourth quarter was a career long and the longest play by a Gopher this season. • DeLeon Eskridge led the Gophers in rushing with 21 carries for 72 yards. • Eric Ellestad connected on his sixth field goal of the year to get the Gophers on the board with 6:21 to play in the second quarter. The 24-yard field goal made him 6 for 10 this season and 18 for 27 for his career. • Sophomore outside linebacker Ryan Grant and sophomore cornerback Kyle Henderson both made their first career starts today. Grant finished with four tackles, while Henderson finished with a career-high 11. • Linebacker Gary Tinsley paced the Gophers with 14 tackles today, a new career best, including six solo stops. Ryan Collado (11) and Kyle Theret (10) also notched double-digit tackle figures for Minnesota.
