Gophers Receive Record Sixth Consecutive NCAA Bid

The Minnesota women’s cross country team will make a school-record sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Golden Gophers received one of 13 at-large berths into the national field, announced by the NCAA on Sunday evening. The NCAA Championships will be run in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 22.

The Golden Gophers have the chance to improve on another pretty prestigious NCAA run as well. Minnesota and Illinois are the only two schools in the nation to place in the top 12 at the NCAA Championships over the past five seasons. Illinois did not make the 2010 NCAA field. Minnesota placed 10th in the NCAA meet a year ago.

“What can I say about this team,” exclaimed Golden Gopher head coach Gary Wilson. “These young women have worked very hard for this and I’m so excited that they reached their goal of getting to NCAAs. We have such a young team but they have just been getting better and better.”

The Big Ten will be represented by four teams at the NCAA Championships: Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Penn State.
