Gophers Win Relay in Final Day of Grand Prix

The Minnesota women’s swimming team added five individual and a pair of relays to their tally of NCAA qualifiers on Sunday at the final day of the Minnesota Grand Prix.
The Golden Gophers ended the meet on a high note, winning the 400-yard medley relay in an NCAA “B” time of 3:38.57. Taking home the gold medals were Hannah Whitehead, Jillian Tyler, Kaylee Jamison and Meagan Radecke. The Gophers’ runner-up relay of Tess Behrens, Haley Spencer, Annalise Colton and Marissa Davies also posted a “B” time of 3:43.04.
Two Gophers earned medals and NCAA “B” times in the 1,650 free. Ashley Steenvoorden clocked a season-best time of 16:02.51 in the race, finishing behind Olympian Chloe Sutton for the second time in the Grand Prix (500 free). Loren Brandon placed third in a season-best time of 16:19.28.
Tyler added another NCAA “B” qualifying performance in the 200 individual medley placing fourth in the season-best time of 2:01.37. Jamison was sixth in 2:02.25.
The top swims continued in the 200 back where Whitehead captured a bronze medal with a season-best time of 1:57.62, yet another NCAA “B” qualifier. Behrens was sixth in 2:00.96.
Minnesota had three swimmers in the 100 free championship final. Meagan Radecke placed fourth with a season-best and NCAA “B” time of 50.16 seconds. Marissa Davies was fifth in 50.76, while Erin Caflisch was eighth in 51.15.
