Minnesota

Coach Mickey Denney Wright

Opening Statement:

"We just want to congratulate Georgetown on their advancement to the Elite Eight. A great competitive battle today. This surface was really tough to play. I think we knew what we were going to get. It was going to be a set piece war and that's what it ended up being. We got a couple of great chances off set, and they certainly are so dangerous with the long throw, and they scored off a corner. We're proud of our team for getting here, no doubt about that. We had a very successful season, and [we're] proud of what the senior class has done for our program."

On even play during the game:

"It was a very slick surface out there. Everybody was just trying to play direct and safe. It was a set piece war. We knew it was going to be that. That's what it comes down to sometimes, because no one can really develop a rhythm. It was really evenly played, and they finished an opportunity and we didn't."

Senior midfielder Kylie Kallman

On looking back at the season:

"Looking at Georgetown, and the other teams that are left [in the NCAA Tournament]. . . . We know that we can hang with these teams. Hats off to Georgetown - they finished it off, and that's what it comes down to, and we couldn't do that today, but I'm not disappointed in the effort that we put forward, and the fight that we had. I expect everyone else to come back next year, and I'll be in the stands watching them as they make it to the Elite Eight next year."

Georgetown

Coach Dave Nolan

Opening Statement:

"It was a very tough game and obviously a difficult way to lose for the Minnesota girls. I felt as the game went on I felt it was going to come down to a little brilliance or a little good fortune, and I think we got a little bit of good fortune at the end on the way the ball went in."

On what happened on the score and corner kick:

"Both of these young ladies here to my left (Samantha Baker and Ingrid Wells) have exceptional delivery on set pieces, and we alternate them depending on side and depending on weather. And Samantha stepped up and hit a great left footed ball that when it gets into a dangerous area with traffic anything can happen. I think the ball didn't really get cleared the first time, and it popped down and somebody reacted, and I need to see the tape again, but I wasn't sure if whether it was one of us or one of them that helped the ball when it went in."

On Coach Mikki Denney-Wright calling this game a set-piece battle:

"The conditions were difficult. The grounds people did a great job with the field, but when the field is frozen there is nothing they can do about that. It was very difficult to get your footing and to play soccer. Both teams are soccer playing teams, and today it just came down to I think attrition. We have great delivery on set-piece, throw-ins, and corner-kicks. And they have great delivery on corner kicks. I think what it was going to come down to was someone catching a good break, and we are grateful it was us."

Samantha Baker

On her throw-ins being like corner kicks because of the distance:

"Even last week we looked very dangerous on the throw-ins. Basically in volume you got to think something is going to happen - especially with Mary and Kaylee as the targets. They are very good and they battle. It's just another way to get the ball in the box."

Ingrid Wells

On winning her first tournament game this season and now being in the elite eight:

"Well we came into this season hoping that we would get back into the NCAA tournament and we have been taking it one game at a time since then. We know that if we play our best and we show up, we can compete with anyone on any day, and that is what we have been done."
