Lange and Schiller Compete at SDSU

Two Gophers competed at the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open at South Dakota State University on Saturday. Freshman Seth Lange won the 141 Ibs. title, while freshman Scott Schiller placed fourth in the 197 Ibs. class.
Lange defeated four wrestlers en route to his title. After a first-round bye, the freshman won his second-round match against Augustana's Sam Fischenich, scoring a technical fall at 15-0. In the quarterfinal round, he took down North Dakota State's Geoff Martin 7-3 by decision. Lange met South Dakota State's Vaske in the semifinals, winning 8-6 by decision. In the finals, he won another close decision against Augustana's Jay Sherer by a score of 4-3.
Schiller also earned a first-round bye. He then lost his second-round match to Nebraska-Lincoln's Andy Johnson, an 11-4 decision. In the 197 Ibs. losers bracket, he defeated Lonnie Brown (Iowa Central), Kolton Kersten (Iowa Central), and Drew Ross (North Dakota State) before losing to Andy Johnson (Nebraska-Lincoln) in the third-place match 11-6 by decision.
