Postgame Quotes

Minnesota 66, Cal Poly 52
December 12, 2010
Minneapolis, Minn.

Minnesota Head Coach Pam Borton

Opening statement:
"I was really proud of our team for really finding a way to win this basketball game. I think our team really gutted it out. We did a great job on the boards. We did a great job being aggressive and getting ourselves to the free throw line. I thought everybody stepped up on our team and did just a little bit extra. Going into this game without Kiara [Buford], your leading scorer, averaging 17 points a game...She leads the team in shot attempts. She's second on the team in rebounds and assists. That's a hard void to fill if you can fill it at all. I was very proud of our kids for finding a way to win and just really gutting this out tonight."

On having Katie Loberg back from an injury:
"I think she definitely gives us a whole different dimension on the floor...She played 16 minutes and had eight points, and five rebounds. That really helps us out. She's athletic. She can score over people. She can get up and down the floor."

Minnesota Player Quotes

Katie Loberg

On battling back from injuries this season:
"Obviously it was really frustrating for me, but it was also a very good learning experience. I got to kind of sit back and watch the team. I feel like mentally, it's made me tougher. I was just really excited to be back to today and I'm working hard with rehab and I'm ready to go."

China Antoine

On if she made any adjustments with Leah Cotton starting in place of Kiara Buford rather than coming off the bench:
"No. I think Leah is one of those types of players that [whether] she's starting or coming off the bench, she's going to play as hard as she can every single game. So having her out there wasn't any different than having her coming off the bench. It just gave us a little spark a little earlier. Ki's a big asset to our team. Having her out, we all knew we had to step up."

Cal Poly Head Coach Faith Mimnaugh

Opening statement:
"It has been a heck of a trip for us. We tried to get out yesterday morning at six and it got delayed by fog, which did warn us. We were in finals this last week and were definitely unprepared. We had hoped to get some court time yesterday, but obviously we were stuck in Phoenix. It has been a challenge for our girls coming off of finals week and the road trip. From a basketball standpoint, we really struggled with the size. We kept talking about how big they were and how they like to duck in. Defensively, our post defense is a weakness of ours. For us not to get any post play offensively was one of the biggest factors for us. The size was really bothersome to us today."

On if the team typically has low turnover totals:
"No, we have been like turnover city. It's like when you go to the laundry mat and watch the clothes turn over. It has kind of been like that. So this was a good improvement for us. We did work on it in practice. It is an area that has been a disaster in the coaches' mind."
