The University of Minnesota basketball program announced today that freshman forward Maurice "Mo" Walker will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season with a torn posterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. Walker suffered the injury on Dec. 23 against South Dakota State.
Walker is scheduled to undergo surgery in the upcoming weeks, although a date has yet to be determined.
“We feel extremely saddened for Mo Walker. He was doing everything we asked him to do this season and was playing extremely well for us, said Gopher head coach Tubby Smith. “We have some of the best medical people in the country at the University of Minnesota so they will make sure that the surgery and ensuing rehabilitation goes well. His positive attitude is going to be the key in his rehab. I know that he will be the biggest cheerleader we have the remainder of the season.”
Walker, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, has appeared in all 12 of Minnesota’s games this season and holds averages of 3.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 9.6 minutes per game. He scored a season-high 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench in the Gophers’ 83-73 victory over St. Joseph’s on Dec. 8 in Philadelphia.
