The University of Minnesota women's soccer team has been ranked among the nation's elite programs, according to final rankings released this week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American and TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Gophers, who concluded their season with a run to the Sweet 16, rounded out the year ranked No. 16 by TopDrawerSoccer.com and No. 21 by the NSCAA.

Minnesota (14-6-3 overall, 4-4-2 Big Ten) was one of six Big Ten programs ranked in the  TopDrawerSoccer.com final poll and was the second highest conference team behind College Cup competitor Ohio State. Including Big Ten opponents, the Gophers faced 11 teams that finished the year in the poll including eventual national champion Notre Dame, who narrowly beat Minnesota 1-0 in the season opener. The Gophers were 5-6 against teams that finished the season ranked in poll, but actually outscored ranked teams 14-11.

Five of Minnesota's opponents in 2010 also made their way onto the NSCAA/Hendrickcars.com rankings, where the Gophers finished the year ranked No. 21 and found themselves second to only Ohio State among Big Ten teams.

The Irish, who handed Stanford a 1-0 loss in the national championship for the Cardinal's only loss of the season, finished the year ranked No. 1 in both polls.
