Kelci Bryant missed the last two weeks of competition with the No. 10 University of Minnesota women's swimming and diving team to prepare and compete at the 2010 USA Diving Winter National Championships and World Cup Trials, held in Columbus, Ohio, February 4-8. Bryant walked away with two national titles out of three events. Her first title came in the 3-meter synchronized event when she paired with Olympian Christina Loukas. Her second came on an individual effort on the 1-meter on Monday. With the two wins, Bryant has now won seven national titles.
"It felt good to win two out of three titles, but it also reminded me that I can always improve," Bryant said. "I need to keep working hard, even harder than I have been, for 2012."
Bryant and the rest of the Golden Gophers will prepare for the Big Ten Championships, Feb. 17-20, hosted by Purdue in at West Lafayette, Ind. Minnesota finished second overall last year as the Indiana Hoosiers edged out the Gophers for the championship title. Bryant and Katie Grunawalt will both dive at the championships, the first Gopher divers since 2008 to compete at Big Tens.
"The Winter Nationals really helped me prepare for the Big Ten and NCAA championships in terms of being able to handle the pressure," Bryant said. There will be a lot of high level divers at the events all trying to take titles. I just need to work and practice under pressure and really prepare for the college meets."
