Co-captain Brittany Francis put the Gophers up, 1-0 when she scored at 9:38 in the first period. Terra Rasmussen made a perfect pass from along the boards, where Francis was there to bang in the puck en route to her ninth goal of the season. Sarah Erickson held the second assist. However, St. Cloud State scored back-to-back power-play goals at 13:40 and 17:55 in the first to put the game at 2-1 after one.
Minnesota peppered SCSU goalie Ashley Nixon with 13 shots to their three, but couldn't muster a goal. Katie Frischmann scored her second goal of the season at 5:02 in the third to push the game into overtime and the eventual tie. Frischmann scored when she put a shot on from the left circle as Nikki Ludwigson and Kelly Seeler assisted on the play.
With both teams going scoreless in the overtime, each team got a point and headed into the shootout. Sarah Erickson missed her shot, while SCSU's Holly Roberts made her goal to put it at a 1-0 advantage. After Anne Schleper missed her shot, Felicia Nelson scored to put the shootout at a 2-0 win for the Huskies.
The game put a blemish on the Gophers' perfect record at home. Prior to tonight's game, the Gophers won all 15 games at home and now stand at 15-0-1 on their home ice. Minnesota outshot the Huskies, 37-14, but couldn't get past Nixon. In all, the Gophers attempted 64 shots to SCSU's 29.
