Minneapolis - The Golden Gopher Softball team was victorious in their only game today (Feb. 13), taking a 4-1 decision from Arkansas at the Metrodome Softball Classic.

Minnesota (3-2) was led once again by freshman pitcher Lacey Middlebrooks (Wake Village, Texas). Middlebrooks pitched all seven innings of the win, allowing just one run, while striking out six. She has pitched every inning of each of the Gophers' wins this season and can boast an impressive 3-0 record to start her college career.

Arkansas (1-3) starter Hope McLemore made it through just three innings, as she gave up four runs (three earned) to the Gophers in the third. She also walked two and allowed seven hits in her three innings of work in suffering her first loss of the season.

Veterans Malisa Barnes (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Heidi Carls (Villard, Minn.) shouldered the load for the Gophers at the plate, finishing with three and two hits respectively.

Barnes went 3-for-4 on the day to lead the team in hits and scored one run. She was one of five Gophers to log four at-bats on the day.

Carls went 2-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI, and was joined by Abby Rehberger (Brainerd, Minn.) with two hits. Rehberger went 2-for-3, knocking in a team high two runs, and scoring one on the afternoon.

Each team collected nine hits in the game, but Arkansas made two errors to the Gophers none.

The Gophers have one game remaining in this year's Metrodome Softball Classic as they play Iowa State on Feb. 14 at 1:00 p.m. in the final game of the weekend. Iowa State is 2-2 on the season, having split games on each Friday and Saturday.

When the Gophers and Cyclones square off, Minnesota will be looking for back-to-back wins for the first time on the young season.
