Gophers and Alumni Complete Friendly Battle

The University of Minnesota men's gold team traveled to Arizona last weekend to take part in the annual Alumni Challenge. The event is held every February at Tonto Verde Golf Club in Rio Verde, Ariz., just north of Phoenix. The challenge allows the current Gopher players to interact with former Gophers while also playing and practicing in the desert.

An alumni team of 13 defeated the 2010 Gophers in the unseasonable cold Arizona weather. All players fought hail, rain and sub-50 degree weather the entire weekend.

Gopher alumni that were in attendance included two all-Americans, four members of the 2002 NCAA Championship team and five members from the 2006 NCAA 3rd place team.

Minnesota will return to the 2010 spring schedule on March 1-2 at the Braveheart Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
