The University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Twins announced today that the first-ever baseball game at Target Field will be played Saturday, March 27 when the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
In conjunction with the Minnesota-Louisiana Tech game, the March 27 festivities mark the first time the general public has the opportunity to visit Target Field and walk through the ballpark while enjoying an afternoon of college baseball. The open house and Gopher game are significant components of the facility testing and staff training programs. Attendance will be capped at 25,000 fans.
Tickets will be sold on a general admission basis for $2 with all proceeds benefitting the Minnesota Twins Community Fund. There will be no pre-sale of tickets for these events as fans can secure general admission passes exclusively at all Target Field ticket office locations starting at 8 a.m. on March 27. Target Field gates will open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. for this event.
"The Golden Gopher Baseball program has been very fortunate to share a special relationship and partnership with the Minnesota Twins," said Minnesota Head Baseball Coach John Anderson. "The Twins are tremendous corporate citizens for our state and area, and I would personally like to thank them on behalf of the University of Minnesota and our baseball program for this special opportunity. Our staff and players are extremely excited to showcase Golden Gopher Baseball at Target Field and to encourage our great Twins and Gopher fans to join us for this special celebration."
“The Minnesota Twins organization is proud to provide this opportunity for the University of Minnesota to play this historic game at Target Field,” said Dave St. Peter, president of the Minnesota Twins. “The Twins have long enjoyed a special relationship with the University of Minnesota and applaud the baseball program’s ongoing tradition of excellence. Our organization is equally excited to showcase Target Field for the first time to so many great people across Twins Territory. It’s certain to be a historic day for the Golden Gophers, Upper Midwest baseball fans and the Twins organization as our club continues to prepare for Opening Day.”
