Fortunato Leads Four Gophers at Winter Cup

Four University of Minnesota gymnasts took part in the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup in Las Vegas Thursday. The Gopher gymnasts were competing as individuals in the event, which serves as the competition to choose the 2010 United States National Team.

Senior Aaron Fortunato was the highlight of the day for the Minnesota contingent. He was third in the all-around in the first session with a score of 82.650. Fortunato was No. 2 on the high bar with a 14.000 score in Thursday's early session. He followed that performance up with the third-best rings score in his session, tallying a 13.450.

Fortunato was in the top four on three events in Session I. He was fourth in the session on the parallel bars.

Three other Gophers also took part in Thursday's early session. Freshman Harris Coleman turned in his best performance of the day on the pommel horse with a 13.850 score. Senior Adam Reichow also had a fifth-place finish for the session, scoring a 14.100 on the floor. Senior Andre Berry was sixth in the session on the vault, recording a score of 15.350.
