Fortunato Qualifies for Finals at Winter Cup

University of Minnesota senior gymnast Aaron Fortunato will compete for a spot on the United States National Team Saturday at the Winter Cup in Las Vegas.

Fortunato qualified for Saturday's final session with a 25th-place finish among all gymnasts in the preliminaries.

"Aaron finished 32nd in the Points Standings with a total of 16 points and qualified to the finals on Saturday," head coach Mike Burns said.  "Aaron did a very good job today, hitting all 6 routines in the early morning session. His final all-around placing was 25th in a field of top gymnasts from around the nation."

Adam Reichow, Andre Berry, and Harris Coleman also competed in The Winter Cup and did not advance to the finals on Saturday.

"Our guys had some moments of brilliance but need to find a higher level of consistency in order to be competitive at a meet of this caliber," said Burns. "I'm hopeful that they will learn from this experience and move forward as the season progresses."
