Metrodome Tournament Starts Thursday

Let's Play Ball
The first pitch is ready to throw on the 2010 Golden Gopher Softball season. The annual Metrodome Classic starts this week on Thursday, Feb. 11 when Minnesota hosts Western Illinois in a double header. The Gophers will play four more games in the classic, which runs through Sunday, Feb. 14. Arkansas, Drake, Iowa, and Iowa State will also appear in this season's Metrodome Softball Classic.

The Records
The tournament will mark the first action on the season for all six teams.

The Series
The Gophers will play each team in the tournament with the exception of Iowa. Against Western Illinois the Gophers are 11-5 all-time, while they are 17-9 against Drake, 1-2 against Arkansas and 39-29 against Iowa State.

Last Match-up
Last season at the Metrodome Classic the Gophers went 1-5, beating Northern Iowa 4-0 on Friday. Of the Gophers five losses, two were one-run games, and two more were three-run games.

Last Time Out
Last season the Golden Gophers finished 23-32 overall and 6-14 in the Big Ten.

Next Up
The Gophers spend the next month of the season heading to Southern Tournaments, and it starts with the Florida Atlantic Kick-Off Classic next weekend. From Feb. 19-21 they are in Boca Raton, Fla. for five games.
