Minnesota men’s track assistant coach Paul Thornton was honored by his peers earning Midwest Region Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year acclaim by the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. Thornton, in his second year with the Golden Gophers, oversees the sprints, jumps and multi-events. Thornton’s charges helped Minnesota defend their Big Ten Indoor title and win event titles in the 600 meters and heptathlon.
“This is a nice honor for Paul,” said Golden Gopher head coach Steve Plasencia. “He’s done a great job in the time he’s been at Minnesota. I fully expect this is just the beginning. Paul is a young coach with a bright future.”
