Former Minnesota standout Ibrahim Kabia advanced to the 60-meter dash final competing for Sierra Leone at the IAAF Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar on Saturday. Kabia clocked a time of 6.65 in the semi-final to advance to the eight-runner final. He placed fourth in his heat, but advanced with one of the fastest times after the top two qualified out of each race. Unfortunately, Kabia was foced to withdraw from the competition with a hamstring injury and did not compete in the final.
Kabia ran a time of 6.76 seconds to place third in his first-round heat, the second of seven preliminary heats.
Kabia graduated last spring from Minnesota concluding a Golden Gopher track career that included earning All-America honors in the 60-meter dash and a Big Ten 100-meter dash title. Kabia qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games but the country of Sierra Leone limited the number of athletes who were allowed to travel to Beijing.
