Gophers Open Outdoor Season
Minnesota opens its 2010 outdoor track season this weekend at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, Friday-Saturday, March 19-20, in Tempe, Ariz. The hammer throw is the only event contested on Friday. Saturday’s field events begin with the discus at 12 p.m. CT, while track events kick off at 7:50 p.m. CT
The Invitational Field
The Baldy Castillo Invitational will feature representatives from 18 schools and several other unattached individuals this weekend. Included in that list of schools are: Arizona State, Bethel University, Colorado Mines, Cornell, Dickinson State, Glendale CC, Grand Canyon, Manhattan, Mesa CC, Minnesota, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Northern Arizona, Paradise Valley CC, South Dakota and Western State.
Quick Turnaround
Six Golden Gophers who competed at last weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships are scheduled to compete this weekend. All-American heptathlete R.J. McGinnis will compete in three field events (long jump, high jump, shot put) as he continues training for the decathlon. Others coming off the NCAA meet and the event(s) they will compete in this weekend: Harun Abda (800 meters), Logan Stroman (800 meters, 4x400m relay), Matt Fisher (high jump), Jack Szmanda (pole vault) and Brock Spandl (pole vault).
