Spencer and Steenvoorden Earn All-America Honors

Haley Spencer and Ashley Steenvoorden earned All-America honors to wrap up the 2010 NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships, today at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. In all, the Gophers had four individuals and two relays earn All-America honors, while Kelci Bryant earned a national title in the 3-meter.
In her NCAA debut, Spencer earned first-team All-America honors when she finished fifth overall in a time of 2:07.88. She shaved off nearly two seconds from her prelim time of 2:09.91 to finish in the top five. She bettered her time of 2:08.48, in which she set at the Big Ten Championships, earlier this year.
Ashley Steenvoorden earned All-America honors when she finished ninth overall in a time of 16:02.39. In just her sophomore year, it’s Steenvoorden’s second All-America honor in the 1,650 free.
