Russell Wins All Around on Senior Night

On vault, Russell was the team’s top scorer, earning a 9.85 to tie for first place and match her best vault score this season. As a team, the Gophers earned a 48.725, the team’s top vault score of the 2010 season.
Russell was again the team’s top scorer on the uneven bars, earning a 9.875 to tie her best bars score in 2010. She tied for second place overall. Freshman Jasmine Brown competed on the bars line up for the first time in her career, and earned an impressive 9.775. The squad tallied a 48.90 in the event.
Ana Balboa and Alexis Russell tied for the team’s top score on beam, each earning a 9.825 to tie for second place. Balboa’s score tied her personal best on beam. Freshman Shannon Golich earned a 9.775, her career-best mark. As a team, the Gophers earned a 48.425.
Minnesota finished the competition on floor exercise, where the team had its highest event score of the night. The Gophers tallied a 39.20, the best event score on any event this season. Alexis Russell was the event winner, earning a 9.90. Kendra Elm tied for third with a 9.85, her personal best floor score. Ana Balboa also earned the best floor score of her career with a 9.825. Shannon Golich made her second appearance in the floor lineup and earned a 9.825. All five scores counting toward the team score on floor were 9.80 or higher.
Russell was the all round champion, setting a season-high and tying her personal-best mark with a 39.450.
Minnesota heads to Ohio State to compete at the 2010 Big Ten Championships next Saturday.
