TEAM NOTES
* SCSU is making its eighth NCAA tournament appearance and now has a record of 1-8.
* SCSU is 6-8 at the Xcel Energy Center, since the building opened in 2001.
* SCSU's 54 shots on goal is a season high.
* SCSU is 1-2 this season against the CCHA.
* SCSU is 20-5-3 this season when scoring first.
* SCSU is 14-3-2 when leading after the first period.
* SCSU is 21-2-1 when leading after the second period.
* SCSU is 2-2-5 in overtime games this season.
* This is SCSU's first overtime game in NCAA tournament play.
* Today was the first time SCSU led after two periods in NCAA tournament play (trailed in seven games and tied in one game).
* SCSU is 20-3-4 this season when scoring on the power play.
* SCSU has played its previous eight NCAA tournament games in the states of New York, Massachusetts and Michigan.
* The last meeting between the two teams was October 2005. SCSU now holds a 21-15-1 series advantage. This was the first meeting on neutral ice.
* SCSU coach Bob Motzko's first career victory as a college coach was a 3-2 overtime victory over NMU on Oct. 15, 2005 in Marquette.
* SCSU had multiple power-play goals for the 12th time this season, and the first since Feb. 12 against North Dakota.
PLAYER NOTES
* SCSU junior wing Tony Mosey scored the game winner on the power play 23 seconds into the second overtime. Nine of Mosey's 13 goals this season have been power play goals. It was also his second game-winning goal.
* SCSU senior right wing Ryan Lasch played in his 160th career game, which set a school record for career games played and consecutive games played. Lasch became SCSU's all-time leading scorer with 182 points (79g, 103a) last weekend. With his two points, Lasch has multiple points in 16 games this season.
* SCSU junior center Garrett Roe scored a goal and two assists in the game. He now has 20 goals and 29 assists on the season and leads the team in scoring and assists. With his three points, Roe has multiple points in 12 games this season and three points in five games this season.
NORTHERN MICHIGAN (20-13-8)
TEAM NOTES
* NMU made its eighth NCAA tournament appearance and first since 1999. Northern Michigan is now 10-10 in NCAA tournament games. The Wildcats won the national title in 1991 at the old St. Paul Civic Center, site of the current Xcel Energy Center.
* NMU's 45 shots on goal is a season high.
* NMU is 3-2 this season against the WCHA.
* NMU is 10-3-2 since Jan. 29 and 13-5-4 since Jan. 1.
* NMU is 6-9-4 when its opponent scores first.
* NMU is 4-7-2 when trailing after the first period.
* NMU is 0-12-4 when trailing after the second period.
* NMU is 2-1-8 in overtime games this season.
* NMU is 2-1 all-time in overtime in NCAA tournament play. All three games went at least two overtimes.
PLAYER NOTES
* NMU junior defenseman Erik Spady scored his first goal of the season, and only his third career goal, to tie the game at 3-3 at 16:11 of the third period.
* NMU junior defenseman Erik Gustafsson was honored as the best offensive defenseman in the CCHA for the second straight season and had an assist in the first period.
* NMU junior forward Mark Olver is a Hobey Baker finalist with 49 points (19g, 30a) and assisted on the game-tying goal in the third period.
* NMU senior center Ray Kaunisto scored the Wildcats second goal. He was named to the CCHA All-Tournament Team last week and was also named an alternate to the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge.
