Minnesota junior starting pitcher Seth Rosin (Shoreview, Minn.) was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on Monday, Mar. 29.
Rosin becomes the first Gopher pitcher to claim the honor this year, and the first to do so since Scott Matyas claimed it twice last year. He was also the first Minnesota starting pitcher to claim the honors since Tom Buske received Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors on Apr. 27, 2009.
On Mar. 26, Rosin pitched a career-high eight innings, gave up five hits, two runs, no walks and collected eight strikeouts. It marked the third time this year that Rosin has struck out eight or more batters in a game, and the fifth time in six starts he has not given up a walk.
Rosin enters the week fourth in the Big Ten in strikeout with 33, seventh in opposing batting average (.234), seventh in innings pitched (34.2) and has the least amount of walks allowed (2) among pitchers who have thrown a minimum of one inning per game team game in the conference. He enters the week at 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 34.2 innings, and has only walked two batters in his 34.2 innings of work.
Minnesota will be in action next when it faces Concordia-Moorhead at the Metrodome on Wednesday, Mar. 31 at 6:35 p.m. The Golden Gophers will open Big Ten play at Purdue on Friday, Apr. 2 at 3 p.m. Minnesota will also play the Boilermakers on Saturday, Apr. 3 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, Apr. 4 at 12 p.m.
