Minnesota Ends Up Fourth in Indiana

After a slow start to the Indiana University Invitational during Saturday's first two rounds, the University of Minnesota shot the low team round on Sunday to finish alone in fourth place. The Gophers (310-297-289--896) finished two strokes behind Iowa State and ten strokes behind host Indiana, who won the tournament with a three-round score of 888. The Hoosiers concluded the invitational with two consecutive rounds of 291.

The Gophers were paced over the weekend by two top ten individual finishes. Junior Samantha Sommers (75-74-73--222) and junior Teresa Puga (77-73-72--222) ended up in a tie for eighth place after Sunday's final round. Senior Christine Herzog (81-78-71--230) shot a final round 71 and carded the low round of the tournament for Minnesota. Herzog shot up the leaderboard on Sunday and finished in a tie for 33rd. Junior Michele Edlin (77-76-73--226) improved her score every round to end up in a tie for 27th. Rounding out the Gopher lineup for the weekend was junior Mary Narzisi (83-74-77--234) finished in a tie for 46th.

Illinois' Hailey Koschmann took medalist honors after shooting a final round 69 to finish at 214. Koschmann edged out Laura Nochta of Indiana by one stroke. Saturday's leader Min Yean Tan of Michigan finished in third after a final round 75 to end up four strokes back.

The Gophers will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the 2010 Lady Buckeye Invitational starting on Saturday, April 17. The field will play 36 holes at OSU's Scarlet Course on the opening day and finish with the final 18 holes on Sunday.
