Eight University of Minnesota gymnasts took to the floor at the Hollender Center at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. Friday night as part of the National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships.
Senior Aaron Fortunato took part in the all-around competition Friday night, finishing in ninth place with a total of 86.300 points.
Meanwhile, seven other Gophers were vying for spots in Saturday night's individual finals. The top 10 individuals in each of Friday night's events advance to Saturday's competition. Just one Gopher moved on, as seniors Cole Storer will compete for All-America honors in the floor exercise Saturday night.
Storer was No. 6 on the floor Friday night, with a 15.350 score. Meanwhile, senior Colin McGuire tied for the No. 10 spot, barely missing the individual event finals. McGuire tallied a 15.250 in the event.
Freshman Harris Coleman narrowly missed making the event finals, turning in an 11th-place finish on the pommel horse Friday. He scored a 14.450. Senior Thomas O'Brien did not qualify on the rings or the pommel horse, scoring a 14.350 and 14.200, respectively. Senior Adam Reichow's 15.750 on the vault wasn't quite enough to get him into the finals, while senior Andre Berry also failed to qualify in the vault. Junior Michael Paulus recorded a 14.200 on the parallel bars, but was unable to move on.
