Gophers Finish Seventh at Lady Buckeye

The University of Minnesota women's golf team recorded its best combined score of the weekend with a 312 at the 2010 Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio to finish alone in seventh place. The Gophers' three-day score of 962 was 10 shots shy of Indiana for sixth place.

Junior Teresa Puga led the Gophers for the weekend, en route to capturing her sixth top-10 finish of the season with a 54-hole total of 236. She finished in a five-player tie for 10th. Fellow junior Samantha Sommers carded the best round of the day for Minnesota with a five-over par 77 and finished one shot behind Puga with a score of 237 and in a tie for 15th.

Mary Narzisi posted rounds of 85-84-80 for the invite and finished in a tie for 51st place. Michele Edlin recorded three straight rounds of 84 to finish in a tie for 56th while Christine Herzog and Jackie Shepherd finished in a tie for 58th and 61st, respectively.

The host Ohio State Buckeyes won the invite by 14 strokes over Michigan State. Northwestern, Kent State and Iowa State rounded out the top-five. Michigan State's Laura Kueny took home medalist honors by one stroke over Rachel Rohanna of OSU.

The Big Ten Championships will be played next weekend at the University of Wisconsin. The Gophers will look to improve on last year's 10th place finish. The entire championships can be followed live at http://www.golfstat.com.
